Quick and Easy Slipper Pattern to Crochet

I love crochet slippers but have a hard time finding one that is really simple to make. Many of the so-called easy slipper patterns still require some amount of counting, increasing and decreasing.

A friend had sent me a pair of knitted tube slippers and I decided to see what I could crochet in a similar manner. I was finally able to work out this pattern in a simple rectangle that is pulled taut at one end and laces like a shoe.

Since it is laced up and not stitched, it would make a wonderful 'boot' for someone in a cast or with a foot wrapped in bandages.

Below is the finished slipper sock. You can find the pattern with additional photos at Quick and Easy Slipper Pattern to Crochet

Here is the completed slipper after it is laced with the chain 'shoestring'

More photos may be seen at Easy Crochet Slipper Sock Pattern where I have the laces done in the contrasting color so they show up better.

Enjoy!

Free Crochet Patterns for Halloween

It's not too early to think about Halloween crochet projects, so here are a couple of ideas to get you started.

Marissa Plains over at The Crafty Bitch 101 compiled a nice list of free crochet patterns for Halloween costumes, decorations, treat bags, etc. Click on over to Free Halloween Themed Crochet Patterns and see what Halloween treats you can stitch up for your little ghoul or goblin.

Need a Halloween Costume for your little one? Eloah James published DIY Halloween Costumes for Mom and Baby that includes several cute ideas to crochet.

Crochet Pattern Central is my favorite site to search for free patterns. They've got a page chock full of Halloween themed patterns that should keep your crochet hook busy for a while.

Trick or Treat!

Crochet Pillow Cover Quandry

In reference to yesterday's post, I'd still like to crochet a cover for this pillow, but obviously the color would peek through just a bit from most any stitch I might use.

I was going to cover the pillow first with a solid cotton fabric and then make the crochet cover, but I just now had another idea. Would it be better to crochet the pillow cover and then line the cover itself?

I've never made a purse or anything that needed a lining, so I'm at a loss here. I suppose I could just crochet the two sides, attach fabric to the back of each, and then stitch together to complete the pillow cover.

Sound feasible?

Perfect Day for This

I can't believe I've let this blog go for this long, although I do sorta have an excuse.

Take a peek at Marie Anne's Missives to see why!

Ok, back to crochet.

I bought new bedding for my bed when I moved into this house in March and wanted to make a throw to put on the end of the bed, or maybe on a chair. I started working on one pattern and although I loved the stitch, I didn't think it 'fit' the style, so started another and was going strong for a while.

Life got in the way (see above) and I haven't worked on it lately, but really wanted to add something to my bed to break up the color some. I remembered I had a pillow that I wanted to re-cover, so thought maybe I could crochet a cover for it with the yarn I was going to use for the throw.

I found the pillow at the thrift shop for $1 or $1.50 and it's in perfect shape, but of course the design doesn't work for anything. I was thinking of covering it with a solid cotton fabric first (I'm sure I've got an old pillowcase or something that would work), and then crochet the 'pretty' cover to go over that.

Whatdya think?

I haven't decided on what crochet stitch to use yet, but this is the yarn I plan on using.

It's cool and rainy today, so I thought it would be a perfect time to pick up this crochet project and make something happen. With so much other junk happening in my life, I thought a small crochet project that wouldn't take long to finish might be just the thing I need.

Comments? Suggestions? Please keep me accountable to get this done!
