Crochet Pillow Cover Quandry

In reference to yesterday's post, I'd still like to crochet a cover for this pillow, but obviously the color would peek through just a bit from most any stitch I might use.

I was going to cover the pillow first with a solid cotton fabric and then make the crochet cover, but I just now had another idea. Would it be better to crochet the pillow cover and then line the cover itself?

I've never made a purse or anything that needed a lining, so I'm at a loss here. I suppose I could just crochet the two sides, attach fabric to the back of each, and then stitch together to complete the pillow cover.

Sound feasible?

Perfect Day for This

I can't believe I've let this blog go for this long, although I do sorta have an excuse.

Take a peek at Marie Anne's Missives to see why!

Ok, back to crochet.

I bought new bedding for my bed when I moved into this house in March and wanted to make a throw to put on the end of the bed, or maybe on a chair. I started working on one pattern and although I loved the stitch, I didn't think it 'fit' the style, so started another and was going strong for a while.

Life got in the way (see above) and I haven't worked on it lately, but really wanted to add something to my bed to break up the color some. I remembered I had a pillow that I wanted to re-cover, so thought maybe I could crochet a cover for it with the yarn I was going to use for the throw.

I found the pillow at the thrift shop for $1 or $1.50 and it's in perfect shape, but of course the design doesn't work for anything. I was thinking of covering it with a solid cotton fabric first (I'm sure I've got an old pillowcase or something that would work), and then crochet the 'pretty' cover to go over that.

Whatdya think?

I haven't decided on what crochet stitch to use yet, but this is the yarn I plan on using.

It's cool and rainy today, so I thought it would be a perfect time to pick up this crochet project and make something happen. With so much other junk happening in my life, I thought a small crochet project that wouldn't take long to finish might be just the thing I need.

Comments? Suggestions? Please keep me accountable to get this done!

Small Blessings

I've just bought a home and getting to this point has been a bit nightmarish, but I'm finally moving in - hurray!

Moving is going to be a slow and tedious process, but I got a nice surprise when moving some things from the old house - look what I found under the bed!

I now have TV, internet and phone hooked up, a new computer desk, a coffee pot and microwave, and now a box of yarn and crochet hooks that I had forgotten about from more than a year ago - what more does a woman need?

Scarves From the Heart

While looking for new scarf patterns, Shelly stumbled across my free Bumpy Scarf Pattern and asked if she could use it for scarves she makes for her charitable organization, Scarves From the Heart. Of course my response was a 'heart'felt yes - I'm flattered that she chose to try my pattern, and for such a great cause.

She just completed two scarves and shared photos with me. She crocheted them using Paton's Canadiana yarn that was donated, in colors of Deep Chocolate, Raspberry and Off-White (colors now discontinued, I believe). She did nine rows with a starting chain of 232, which resulted in scarves 80" long x 4" wide.

I think she did a great job and I'm sure the lucky recipients of her gifts will be most appreciative.

Shelly, thanks for sharing with me, and also for the great works you do with Scarves From the Heart ...

Update: Shelly just informed me that this is just one scarf but she has shown both sides. Each color is just one row and the stitch used makes it so that it is raised on one side and recessed on the other. Since she used the off-white every other row, you see more of it on one side than the reverse.

Pretty neat, huh?

6th Picture

Fun idea!

1. Go to your pictures on your computer
2. Open the 6th folder
3. Choose the 6th picture
4. Show the picture on your blog and write something about it.
5. Invite 6 new people to this challenge.
6. Link to them and let them know they are challenged.

This is the 6th picture of my 6th folder on my computer. It is a closeup photo of an afghan that I made last year in colors that are similar to the team colors of the San Francisco 49ers. Haven't sold it, but then I haven't listed it anywhere either!

I challenge: Diane, Roberta Anne, Tammy, Gardner, Sissie and Lesa.

Latest WIPs

Like most of you, I seem to have several projects going at once. If you crochet and only work on one item at a time, I'd love to hear how you do it!

(click photos to enlarge)

I've already made one afghan with this pattern and picked this one back up again the other day, but then put it down again to make a scarf out of the same stitch (and colors, LOL) and wrote down the pattern to share. You can find the scarf pattern in the post immediately preceding this one, or click here.

I'm also working on two more, one in RH Linen, and the other in Hobby Lobby's ILTY- Naturals. They are similar patterns that I worked up myself, and I guess I should get that written down and posted too. All are very easy and quick to work up, but pretty nonetheless. The photo of the variegated doesn't do it justice.

Other than crocheting, I've been trying to keep my other blogs updated (here and here) as well as earn those pennies online.

So, how many projects are YOU working on?
