Free Pattern - Pretty One-Skein Scarf

Several have asked for the pattern I used for the scarves I've posted about recently, so I paused to write it down as I started working on the latest edition. Took me all of two minutes!

Here are photos of the finished lime green one I posted earlier as I was working on it, and the scarf in grape that I just started.

I have a photo of the first one I completed in a tan color in an earlier blog entry here.

I hope you enjoy this free scarf pattern. You may sell items made from this pattern, but please don't sell the pattern, or post it elsewhere without linking directly to this blog.

The purple scarf will be listed in my Etsy shop when finished.

Old and New Easy Crochet Projects

I was chatting with a friend last night and she reminded me of a baby blanket that I had sent her when her daughter was born - almost four years ago. I didn't have pictures on this computer, so she graciously shared them with me. I can't believe it was that long ago, but what a sweet memory, seeing her precious baby girl all snuggled up in something that I made.

I'm almost finished with another scarf that I'm making for a friend to match her favorite lime green crocs.

I still have a little to do and then the finishing so these pictures show it with all the tails, etc, but you get the idea.

This has quickly become a favorite pattern, and it's one I basically put together myself after seeing a stitch I liked that was easy, yet very pretty.

Next project on the list is something for ME!

I want something I can throw over my shoulders here at the house, and also for when I'm driving. I hate wearing a coat while driving, yet still need some sort of covering while the car is warming up. A friend at C'ville shared a pattern that she liked and I started one immediately. Here's what I've done so far and yes, I will be modifying the pattern to make it longer, as she did hers.

(Again, excuse the 'tails' and all that - it's still a work in progress)

The color isn't true in the pictures, but it is a very pretty light denim color with Red Heart 'Spa Blue', paired with Coffee, and I think it's a nice combination. I know I will get a lot of use out of this wearable, and this pattern.

Easy Shawl , Quick Scarves and Hexagonal Afghan Update

As usual, I've got several projects going at once and can't wait to start more. I know you can identify with that!

I finished two scarves that a sweet online friend commissioned me to do for her. They were very simple to do and worked up quickly.

I can never get the color red to show up well in a photo, but the tan one is a good representation.

I sure hope she likes them!

I've looked and looked for a simple shawl pattern as I'd love one to drape around my shoulders while I watch TV and crochet, or sit here at the computer. I managed to crochet this simple granny shawl pattern in a little more than an evening, but I didn't have enough yarn on hand to make it large enough for me so impatient person that I am, I finished it off in a size that would be perfect for a young lady.

Now I just need to find a young lady that would like a simple black and white granny shawl. Maybe I'll list it for sale on Etsy.

I've almost finished the hexagonal afghan I started a while back. I thought I would have enough yarn to complete it this time, but I think it needs another row or two to make it long enough. I still like the yarn color combination of coffee, turqua and white - I don't think the photo does it justice.

I'm still working on afghans to bring to my local VA hospital. I've got two afghans large enough to easily cover twin sized beds, and two lapghans to give to wheelchair patients, and I'm working on a full sized afghan from scrap yarn that is going to be very pretty, if I ever get the scraps together to finish it.

I think I'll work up a few scarves and maybe some hats too, as a lot of the patients go outside for smoke breaks and such and it's pretty cold here in Ohio this time of year.

So - what are YOU working on?

Latest Crochet Projects

I have had so many new crochet projects going lately that I'm not sure where to begin. I was tickled that I got the two afghans for veterans completely finished, so now I don't feel so bad starting something new.

A very dear online friend is going through the last stages of her husband's illness and she is understandably having a very tough time coping in his last days. I can't be there to give her physical support, but I wanted her to know that we are continually in prayer for her and her family, so I decided to make a prayer shawl so she'd have something tangible to remind her.

I couldn't find a pattern that I could make work (I don't usually do well other than square and rectangle), so I played around a bit and came up with something that halfway worked, I guess.

It isn't a true triangle, but the top/side edges almost appear like angels wings, so I guess it's appropriate after all. A group of Christian friends on yahoogroups prayed with me while I tackled the project, and even if not the prettiest thing, it is full of love and prayers.

I've never done well working in the round, but with everyone raving about RR (round ripple) baby blankets, I've got that on my 'to do' list. As a bridge towards that, I decided to try the hexagon pattern posted by YarnJeannie on C'ville.

I started this a day or two ago, and here's what I've worked up so far in Red Heart Coffee, Turqua and White.

I can already tell that this will be a favorite crochet pattern, and have all sorts of colors running through my mind for baby blankets and other crochet projects that will adapt well to this hexagon afghan pattern.

Crochet Afghans to Donate to Veterans

Finally!

I've been working on these two projects for some time and finally dragged them out to finish up. I only needed to weave in a few ends on the ripple, but I had a few rows to finish on the other. Since I ran out of a color and had to buy more, of course I started on other projects in between (I'm sure everyone knows how THAT goes) and got a bit sidetracked.

As of this morning, they are both DONE and I hope to take them out to my local VA hospital soon, along with the lapghan that I posted about previously for a wheelchair-bound veteran.

The ripple afghan is a variation of SusanB's Easy Ripple, but I work mine in BLO and of course vary the number of rows to make a wider stripe. I absolutely love this ripple pattern and have used it many times, and no doubt will again.

I can't remember where I found this other pattern, but it is a simple sc/dc/tr across the row, ending with tr, and doing the same on the next row. When you turn and start again, the sc ends up on top of the tr, the dc on top of the dc, and the tr on top of the sc, so it all comes out even at the top. Very simple, but in order for each stitch to show nicely, it is done with one row per color, so there are quite a few ends to deal with. Small price to pay for such a pretty pattern, though, in my opinion.

I think the colors I chose are nice, without being 'girly'. Not quite camouflaged, but definitely a close color scheme. I'm sure there are veterans on the ward in the VA hospital that will appreciate them, regardless of color. The beds have only stark white sheets with no blankets, and I'm hopeful that the bit of color will add a little brightness to their day.
